St Matthews Church Guildford

Kelly and Ben were married at St Matthews Church on Saturday 25th of April which was originaly constructed in 1836 of mudbrick. It was built on land donated by Governor Stirling at the eastern edge of Guildford, near the current location of the Guildford Grammar School Chapel. This building was replaced by a second Church built in the centre of Stirling Square which was demolished only 12 years later in a hurricane.
The existing St Matthews was constructed in 1873 from local clay bricks in a style called Flemish bond - the bricks are laid alternately lengthwise and pointing inwards.
The bridal party did their photos at the landing at Sandalford winery and had their reception at Belvoir venue Collection. A few photos of the bridal party Saint Matthews and the landing at our gallery.

Hale School Ball

Paul Oliver book us again this year for his Hale school ball so next year i will have to find a new client. Same as last year they did their photos at Kings Park ,unfortunately at this time of year you lose the light by 6pm . The school was having construction on the west side this year so we had to enter the old way, past the Chapel . The teachers tried to be well organized but we were booked from 6 till 7 but they did not want us to drop off until 7.30 pm . Well many of the limos had other jobs to get to including us so in future teachers and students of hale school should coordinate their time management skills as the world does not revolve around them. Woody Allen once said 90% of success is being on time the other 10% is just turning up.Where the organisers placed the limos for pick up was very dark and posed a safety hazard . A couple of lighting towers would not have gone astray as the numbering system they gave us was a waste of resources. It was hard to see the limos let alone the numbers on them. I did not get shots of the whole group as it was dark by the time they turned up but a few more shots at Kings Park are at our Gallery.

Hotel Northbridge Bridal Drive off confusion Trust your own Intuition

A few weeks ago i did a wedding drive of from a reception center in Ardross to Hotel Northbridge . Now the location given to us was Hotel Northbridge 15 Robinson Street Northbridge. But they Were actually staying at the All Seasons Hotel Northbridge which is 304 meters from Hotel Northbridge. Now when i picked up the bride and groom they were well past the inebriation level which i would normally find acceptable to travel in my BMW sedan but i took them anyway as i did not want to get into an argument with the groom in that state.
When we arrived at the Hotel Northbridge i asked them if they wanted me to wait while they checked in to make sure it was the right hotel but they told me they were going to walk around and get some food as the groom was hungry. I would have assumed they would recognise the hotel they had booked .
Well two weeks latter i get an email saying i had delivered them to the wrong hotel , then having to walk with sore feet for twenty minutes to find it and wanted a refund which i obliged as i had not taken them to the exact address they had given but to the hotel they had given.
I did this as I not want the bride to get any more grief from her spouse whom got very peeved off and would not calm down that night apparently according to the bride. I mean they where driven several kilometers at the right time anyway to the hotel they asked for which was only a few hundred paces from where they had really booked into, if they had said the All Seasons Hotel that where i would have left them.
I have since spoken to others in the industry and none said they would have given a refund as the would also have taken them to Hotel Northbridge not 15 Robinson Street.
My point is my intuition from the beginning was to cancel this booking as they had made several changes for pick up and drop offs to the other end of Perth causing us to change other bookings we had as well. This was a date which i had many better wedding inquiries for and could have easily refilled.
Strangely enough i did not take any of my usual candid photos on the day or write about the wedding in a blog, i must have known what was coming subconsciously .
I find it quite amazing that drunk people would think their memory of events would be better that a sober non drinkers. This is a lesson i will make sure not to repeat as i generally double and triple check address locations anyway as people often make small mistakes.

Oceanreef High School Ball

The Ocean Reef Senior High School Ball was on Saturday the 28th of March which was held at the Hyatt Ballrooms on Adelaide Terrace. These kids where very well behaved and exuded an air of confidence normally reserved for students that have graduated. They may well have deserved the indulgence of their parents on this memorable occasion and be well entitled to their hedonistic attitude . More Photos at my Gallery.
On another note unrelated to the Students above and a general observation of our culture.
Nowadays parents of students assume it is socially acceptable to supply sixteen to seventeen year old girls and boys with alcohol even children not their own. It is no wonder Australia has a binge drinking problem when parents say it is ok to break the law as a rite of passage. Now i am guilty as anyone of overindulging my offspring as i supplied my son with vodka 2 month prior to his 18th birthday for his after party. He treated that as a privilege not a rite but i still regret my poor judgment some 7 years latter. In that i was condoning bending and breaking the law as supplying minors with alcohol is a more serious offense than drinking as a minor, we as parents should set a better example for right from wrong. No wonder the kids of today have such poor boundaries and judgement when parent cowtow to there beloved children. The parents need to grow up themselves and take responsibility for their and their offsprings choices .

Virginia & Shannons Wedding 7th of March 2009

The Photographer Lorna Henson was a bit naughty on Saturday by not releasing the bridal party in Fremantle until 5.15pm when we had to be in Dalkieth and gone by 5.30pm. Many photographers take liberties with the time as they want to get as many photos as possible but it is a somewhat disrespectful when we are only booked until a certain time and have other clients that may then be disapointed if we are late.Ten or fifteen minutes may not seem a lot of time but to the next clients it may be the diffence in arriving on time for their appointment or fight. Shannon and Virginia where married at Saint Mary's Church in Highgate. The Photos were at Hyde Park and the Notre Dame Law Court in Fremantle. A few more Photos at our gallery

School Ball From Spearwood To the Fremantle Sailing Club

School Ball Organisers Fail in every aspect of this event

The school ball season which runs from the end of January threw to May with a few more in June, July and August is well and truly under way . As all the schools want to get them over and done with as the only thing students talk about is their ball. Only one or two schools in Perth Holds their "Graduation Ball" in December or January during school break. They do this as an incentive for their students to say in school and achieve by not allowing anyone that drops out, fails,or has disciplinary action taken against them during the year to attend the ball. The fact that schools organise the ball season at the same time as the peak wedding season means they pay more for every thing. It is simple economics 101 ,supply verses demand. The venues charge a premium because it is in high demand time ,the suit hire have to carry extra stock and there are only half the better limousines available as they are generally still on weddings until 6 to 7 pm. Even if the organisers delayed the ball start time an hour they would dramatically increase the number of limousines available. With the economic crisis these event arrangers at the schools might want to learn and then teach these economic lessons to the students. If the Schools held their balls from May to September or even in January they would reduce the cost by at least 25%. The generation x are being taught a very poor lesson that the don't have to delay gratifacation and can have every thing as soon as they demand it. Well i think the world is about to give that group of people a rude wake up shock that they might just have to econimise and save now.

I arrived early only to find one of his groomsmen frantic to get to the domestic airport as his pre-booked taxi was an hour late and still in no sight . So i drove him to the domestic while he cancelled the over due taxi only to have the taxi ring him just before I dropped him off with only minute before his flight was due to board to say they were now at Sandalford Winery pick up address. That is one new client and one less for taxi industry.
